Campfire Instrumental

from New Mexico by Jacob Smigel

/

about

"Campfire Instrumental" is also made from New Mexico field recordings. Joe and I are playing guitar around a late night campfire, which can be heard crackling at the beginning of the track. There are occasional long notes played Matt Kendall on a Tijuana Squeeze Box from some 40 feet away. Matt Kendall has a history degree and it was our ongoing joke on that trip that he was our “resident historian.” This meant that we could ask him to explain the history behind anything at all and he would have to give an answer that was factual, fictional, or both. The conversation heard in this track is resident historian Matthew James Kendall explaining the history behind a crater I supposedly saw along route 66.
